I tried to check my credit report online, but the site wanted to charge me a fee or get me to sign up for other services. Aren’t credit reports free?

AnnualCreditReport.com is the only authorized website for the free annual credit reports that you are guaranteed by law.

As a rule of thumb, if the website domain name has the word “free” in its address, it is not actually required by the federal government to provide credit reports for free.

AnnualCreditReport.com is the only place where you can obtain the free credit report guaranteed by federal law.
